A Look Back at the Future of Insurance

In response to a year of substantial change, M saw an opportunity to engage and connect with our community by providing timely information from some of the industry’s most notable speakers. In April 2020, M launched the Future of Insurance virtual speaker series to give our Member Firms, their professional advisors, and their clients essential insights and beneficial strategies for navigating the changes brought on by COVID-19.

M selected an array of outstanding subject matter experts to address current affairs and the issues that matter to the HNW and UHNW community. These experts explored topics such as market volatility and economic disruptions, product pricing and availability impacted by a low interest rate environment, the effects of the 2020 election on taxes and retirement planning, and ESG investing.

According to M President and CEO Wes Thompson, “M’s Future of Insurance series has been an effective way to keep our community informed and engaged. Our expert speakers have explored a broad range of topics that impact our Member Firms and their key advisors.”

Here are just a few highlights from the 2020 Future of Insurance series:

On July 15, M featured Zanny Minton Beddoes, renowned journalist and Editor-in-Chief of The Economist. In Zanny’s summer keynote talk, she revealed how key drivers such as geopolitical pressure, demography, climate change, and economic distress have been impacted by the pandemic. Zanny offered a long-term outlook on how these changes will define the future of the global economy.

For our fall keynote on October 7, we welcomed Paul Ryan, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Speaker Ryan brought an insider’s perspective to the election and shared his thoughts about the opportunities ahead with an audience of over 600 financial professionals and business leaders.

Our 2020 season culminated on October 28 with Kedra Newsom, Partner and Managing Director of Boston Consulting Group. An extraordinary amount of assets are shifting into the hands of women over the next three to five years, and Kedra revealed why it’s so important for wealth management firms to engage and retain women clients.

We’ll announce the lineup of speakers for the 2021 season soon. To watch replays of past sessions, or to recommend a speaker for 2021, please visit the Future of Insurance website.
